
On January 28, 2025, NEOKCR's Economic Impact Director, Calvin Slocum, participated in a live LinkedIn discussion hosted by the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs. The conversation focused on Black economic liberation and the critical role of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) in empowering Black communities financially.
During the interview, Slocum drew from his extensive background in finance and community development to highlight the necessity of equitable asset distribution. He stressed that financial institutions must prioritize internal controls, process efficiencies, and compliance to effectively serve marginalized communities.
Slocum's professional journey includes a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma and experience in accounting and internal auditing across various financial institutions, ranging from large commercial banks to credit unions. His dedication to community development is further evidenced by his work in real estate investing, management, and small-scale development.
In his current role at NEOKCR, Slocum leads initiatives that align with the organization's mission to provide Northeast Oklahoma City with resources and relationships that drive economic and community revitalization, namely our Revolving Loan Fund. His participation in this interview underscores NEOKCR's commitment to promoting financial empowerment and addressing systemic disparities through strategic partnerships and community-focused programs.
